1 Killed, 5 Injured in Clash Between Two Villages in Ukhrul District

The three injured individuals also belong to Shangching village.

The Additional District Magistrate of Ukhrul District has imposed a prohibitory order throughout the village jurisdictions of Shangching and Lungreiphung Tang, Ukhrul District, after one person was killed and five others were reportedly injured following a clash between the two villages over a land dispute.

According to reports, the deceased has been identified as Ramyon RK, 36, son of Ramleng RK of Shangching village.

The other injured individuals, as per reports, are Aron RK (36), son of Ramlung RK; Joseph RK (54), son of Late Alungleng RK; and Peter RK (73), son of Late Maphangzar.

The three injured individuals also belong to Shangching village.

It is reported that two other injured individuals belong to Lungreiphung Tang village; however, their identities could not be confirmed by the time of this report's filing.

Additional District Magistrate Polly Makan issued the prohibitory orders to restrict movement in the two villages to maintain law and order.

“The Superintendent of Police, Ukhrul, has reported potential disturbances stemming from an ongoing land dispute between Shangching and Lungreiphung Tang, which poses a significant threat to peace and public tranquility,” said a government order. “Such disturbances could lead to serious breaches of peace, endanger lives, and pose risks to property.”

Makan prohibited movement in the affected areas starting at 2:30 PM on Thursday until further notice. “No procession shall commence until authorization is granted.”

Additionally, the order has designated Dingringam Kamei, SDM/Ukhrul, as the Executive Magistrate for the entire jurisdiction of Shangching village and Lungreiphung Tang.
