Medical Camp held at T. Vaichong after reports of an epidemic in the area

After the report of a widespread illness most fever among people, especially children, in the Twilang area under T. Vaichong Sub Division in Kangpokpi district, a medical camp was organized today at T. Vaichong Sub Divisional Headquarters.

T. Vaichong Sub Divisional Headquarters is located in a remote area of Kangpokpi district, situated around 40 Km. away from Kangpokpi district headquarters comprising more than 75 villages of different communities including Kuki, Naga, and Nepali.

According to the KSO Twilang block, since April's first week, the Twilang area witnessed a widespread fever among the people, especially children, compelling the CSOs of the area to inform the concerned SDO, who promptly conveyed to the Chief Medical Officer of the district.

The CMO Kangpokpi on learning about the incident, swung into action and organized the medical camp in collaboration with the CSOs of the Twilang area.

More than 200 people were examined during the medical camp while the medical team also collected samples of the epidemic in the area.

An awareness seminar on mental health, malaria, etc. was also held with Dr. Lamkhoneng Haokip, CMO Kangpokpi, Dr. Lhingkhoneng, Rishikesh Sharma, and Holminlun Khongsai, district Epidemiologists as resource persons.

The resource persons spoke on Hepatitis B and C, non-communicable diseases, etc. while re-orientation for ASHAs was also conducted during the awareness seminar.

The RBSK team from the medical department also visited T. Vaichong High School and conducted a screening to identify students having symptoms and diseases so that they can avail of benefits in the next course of treatment.

Around 31 ASHAs out of 50 attended the medical camp and awareness seminar apart from the mammoth public and CSOs leaders.

Dr. Bernard from CMO Pool and Dr. Arif Khan, MO, T. Vaichong PHC apart from other medical officials examined the patients while KSO Twilang Block second batch first aid trainees and T. Vaichong youths did all the volunteers work.

Meanwhile, KSO Twilang Block President, Enock Kipgen said that PHC T. Vaichong has been immensely lacking doctors at the health centre and demanded the authority concerned to provide at least 4/5 doctors at PHC to cater to the medical needs of the people.

He also recalled that one Doctor posted at PHC T.Vaichong was recently transferred without posting any replacement.

He urged the authority concerned to look into the matter and provide adequate doctors in the larger interest of the deprived people of Twilang area.
