By THJ Desk — On May 30, 2023

One more Internally Displaced Person (IDP), who sheltered in a relief camp at Keithelmanbi Military Colony in Champhai Sub Division of Kangpokpi district expired today.

The deceased identified as Khaipao Haokip, 63 years old, from Saheibung village died of Cardio Respiratory Failure and Chronic Kidney disease.

According to his cousin's brother, they left their village when the warring Meitei community burnt their village, though not completely, on May 7 and hid in a jungle for a few days before they were evacuated to Kangpokpi district headquarters on May 13.

Since they left the village, the deceased could no longer have dialysis which accounts for his death.

The deceased emotional cousin brother while narrating their ordeals recalled that the day when they left their village and hid in the jungle, my brother was also ready in a critical condition but we are helpless as we could not go to hospital for his dialysis anymore.

He continued that even after we were evacuated to Kangpokpi and sheltered in a relief camp, despite all efforts, we could not give me dialysis owing to the crowd waiting for the same at Senapati District Hospital, the nearest hospital where dialysis is available.

"We are waiting for our time, he was about to get dialysis next week, but, before our time came he left us", he added.

The heartbroken deceased wife said that, "I have no hope anymore for his survival when I failed to avail him the dialysis he needed on time".

"I just pray and look at him, for I know he does not have much time", the visibly emotional wife added.

The deceased wife further said that I am deeply pain as I could not bring him home and buried him in our village, but, I am sincerely grateful to the people of Keithelmanbi Military Colony for their generosity and kindness for allowing us to buried my husband in their village.

The lifeless body of the deceased was buried at Keithelmanbi by Keithelmanbi Solam Baptist Church with the permission of Keithelmanbi Village Authority later in the evening after a condolence service was held at Keithelmanbi Solam Baptist Church premises where hundreds of people pay their last tribute.

Khaipao Haokip is the second Internally Displaced Person who died while staying in a relief camp.

Earlier, an aged 73-years-old Dalkhumang Gangte, from Longpi village, who was evacuated on May 7 expired on May 18 at Kangpokpi town.
