Expressing with deep dismay, the Kuki Students' Organisation, Delhi and NCR (KSO-D&NCR) has condemned the 'utterly insensitive and discriminatory decision' of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) authorities towards tribal interns posted at the medical college.

A condemnation statement issued on Saturday, with reference to the meeting of dean, Medical superintendent, Sub Deans and HODS i/c, held on May 29 in the presence of the Director, JNIMS Imphal, the KSO stated that the re-allocation of interns erstwhile posted at Churachandpur Medical College, Churachandpur, to JNIMS, Imphal, reflected the Institute's positive response for few affected students only. However, it said, the same opportunity should be extended to interns who were posted at JNIMS.

KSO demanded that affected students from those Institutes should be provided chances for re-allocation to a convenient Institute of their choice, considering the prevailing communal tension in the state where thousands have been displaced. The hasty decision taken to resume Under-Graduate classes and conduct Post-Graduate examination as scheduled was a display of the JNIMS authorities' callous indifference to the plight of distressed students who were victims of the ongoing ethnic violence, it stated.

The KSO claimed that when the violence erupted, the administration of JNIMS failed to provide timely security to the Kuki-Zo tribal students residing in campus and they were forced to flee for their lives after an aggressive mob entered the institute's premises. It alleged that the inconsiderate decisions arrived at meeting reflected the administrative authority's apathy to the sufferings of Kuk-Zo tribal students and the Institute's failure to accommodate an inclusive approach in its decision.
