Fresh violence erupted in border town of Moreh in Tengnoupal district, Manipur, on Wednesday after security forces thrashed innocent women who went out for marketing during curfew relaxation hours. The woman was reportedly injured on her hand and was given medical aid at Moreh Hospital.
The incident triggered heated argument between the womenfolk, who gathered in protest against the atrocity on woman, and security forces, thereby confrontation broke out between women protestors and security forces.
Enraged by the unlawful action of security forces, womenfolks began to block the road at Moreh bazar in protest against the high-handedness of security personnel and thereafter, vandalized some houses which were used by the security forces. The women also torched the houses where security forces are stationed in Moreh town.
To disperse the agitating mob, the security forces fired several rounds of tear gas shells. The situation became tense as Manipur police commandos came out of their complex and fired several live rounds towards the agitators, following which the Village Defence Volunteers retaliated in opened gunfire.
In the violent incident, sources said, a father and son were also picked up from their house by the Manipur police commando stationed in Moreh border town. The individuals are identified as Jilmang Touthang (58 yrs) H/o Hoikhoneng Touthang, and his son Ginsonlam Touthang (35 yrs) of Lhangnom Veng, Moreh.
