NESO Executive members visit strife-torn Manipur, appeal for peace

The executive members of the North East Students’ Union (NESO), an apex students’ union of the Northeast, reached Churachandpur district, on Wednesday and interacted with various civil society organisations, in their 2-days ground situation visit in strife-torn Manipur.

The members of the team were received by various students’ organisations and civil society bodies from the Kuki-Zo communities at Rayburn college.

The Kuki-Zo students and civil society organisations have an interaction with the NESO team at the premises of the college.

The visiting team were briefed about the prevailing situation in the district and the state. During the interaction, the Kuki-Zo bodies conveyed their disappointment on how the state government has been treating the tribal communities over the past many years.

Delegates from NESO team informed that they have been in touch with the people of Manipur since beginning of the present crisis in Manipur, and expressed their deep concerns for the career of the students that have been affected by the ethnic violence in the state.

The NESO members also stated that they would try their best to make sure that peace and harmony prevails in Manipur and the age old relationship between the communities is restored even though the process may take time.

The visiting team will also meet with the Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey this evening.
