The Manipur University authority on Wednesday clarified that there was an ‘oversight and error’ committed by the University in regards to the BA Psychology (Hons) 5th semester examination results for Rayburn College, Churachandpur, which was declared two days back.
After the rectification, 41 out of 76 students were found to have cleared the examination, and the pass percentage rose to 53%. It may also be mentioned that 10 students who had passed the exam in the earlier result are Non-Meiteis, contrary to the claim circulated on social media, a press note issued by PRO in-charge of Manipur University, Punsiba Toijam, has said.
In case of zoology 4th semester, the University authority clarified that according to the result of the aforesaid examination, no student is found failing the said exam in contrary to the allegation that 5 students of Rayburn College were awarded zero marks and most students failed. Five of the students clearing the said exam on Zoology are non-Meiteis, contrary to the claim circulated over social media.

Punsiba Toijam stated that the University deeply valued the feedback and concerns expressed by various stakeholders while assuring them that the university’s authority took the matter seriously and is committed to transparency in its processes.
In regards to some students expressing dissatisfaction regarding the marks received in the BA Psychology (Hons) 5th Semester Examination, Toijam said that the introduction of psychology is quite recent, and the structure itself is slightly different from the other arts subjects.
“Due to this very fact, there was an oversight and an error committed by the University. Thus, while declaring the result, the practical marks for papers 507 and 508 were not added to the total marks, leading to the failure of most of the students,” Toijam said.
He stated that while the University appreciates the concern raised by the students, the Controller of Examinations also acted promptly by issuing a fresh revised result in rectification to the previous one where only 10 students out of 76 passed.
Further, as a part of the standing University examination norms, when a student fails either in theory or in practical or in an internal assessment test of some subjects, a zero, blank, or -2 is marked against the subject in his or her marksheet. Every responsible official in the University and affiliated college is aware of the established norm after the introduction of internal assessment during the COVID-19 pandemic, he stated.
The University further encouraged the students who have concerns about their examination results to follow the established procedure for requesting or informing the university authority about any grievances.
PRO assured that the Manipur University is committed to addressing the concern in a timely manner and providing a fair and equitable resolution.
