A day after reaffirming its neutrality in the ongoing conflict in the State, the All Manipur Muslim Organizations Coordinating Committee (AMMOCOC) has requested whoever concerned not to represent the Pangal (Manipur Muslim) community with the language of hatred and enmity but rather be represented by the language of peace and harmony.

The apex body of Pangal community civil society organizations has made an appeal for a solution among the conflicting parties for a durable peace in Manipur while stating that peace seems a distant possibility, though peace alone is the way forward for a secured and shared future of different ethnic communities in Manipur.

AMMOCOC stated that the conflict on the State has unfolded the likelihood of attracting other communities into its fold which otherwise are remaining neutral so far after more than four months of bloodbath in Manipur.

In its press released issued on Sunday, AMMOCOC stated that it has the utmost urgency to appeal to the sanities of various sections of larger Manipur society not to stoke hatred between different ethnic communities with their short sighted conceptions. It is a time to speak the languages of peace and harmony, not the language of hatred and enmity, it said.

AMMOCOC said, “This conflict must stop and peace must be given a chance. We have had enough of sufferings on the lives of poor and working class as their lives stand still for the last four months.”

While stating that the apex body was advocating for a dignified and responsible position of Pangal community in Manipur, it mobilized the community for taking a position of neutrality in the conflict situation as that was the only way through which they can help in restoring the lost ground of peace and harmony.

In its earlier statement on Saturday, AMMOCOC stated that the Pangal (Manipur Muslim) community has reaffirmed its “neutrality” in the ongoing State-sponsored ethnic violence in the State, and reiterated its commitment towards permanent peace and normalcy in strife-hit Manipur.

AMMOCOC had stated that the Pangal community was dedicated to playing a constructive role in restoring peace and normalcy in the State and towards territorial integrity of Manipur.

While expressing its deepest concern over the prolonged duration of the conflict, AMMOCOC urged the Central government to take immediate and effective steps towards restoration of peace and harmony in the State as well as permanent and complete solution to the ongoing ethnic war in the state of Manipur.

The Muslim apex body also condemned the recent remarks against the Meira Paibis (Womenfolk) made by the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, during a meeting with a team of Meiteis’ MLAs that has been widely reported in local print and electronic media, which it claimed  have allegedly undermine the dignity of the Meira Paibis of Manipur.

It is nothing but to divert the inability of the Central government to bring to an end on the ongoing ethnic clashes, the Committee alleged, it added

AMMOCOC further stated it along with Pangal civil society organizations urged all parties affected by the ongoing conflict to prioritize dialogue, understanding and cooperation in order to swiftly bring an end to the prevailing mayhem in Manipur
