Surrender all illegal weapons within 15 days or face consequences: CM Biren Singh

The Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, on Friday informed that all illegal weapons held by any person or groups across the State should be surrendered within a period of 15 days from today.

A press release issued by the Chief Minister stated that the State government is willing to take a considerate view for the persons submitting such illegal weapons within these 15 days.

“At the end of the 15 days security forces , both of the Centre and the state, will undertake a strong and comprehensive search operation all over the state to recover such weapons and all person associated with any illegal weapons will be dealt with as per the law,” Biren said.

The Chief Minister also stated that there have been reports of extortions, threat and abduction by miscreant groups using illegal weapons. Such act is a serious matter and the State government will take strong action against such miscreant’s groups in any parts of the State, he added.

The government also appealed to the people of the State to cooperate with both the Central and State governments in restoring peace and normalcy.

Manipur violence has reached 141 days since it broke out on May 3, 2023 and the mayhem continues with no semblance of peace and normalcy. As per Manipur Police data, 175 died since the ethnic violence and 96 bodies still remained unclaimed. There are 32 missing person and 1,118 sustained serious injuries. More than 5,172 cases of arson reported and 4,786 houses torched,
386 religious places destroyed.

Out of the 5,668 weapons stolen from different stations of security forces, only
1,329 weapons recovered till today.
