CM Chairs Cabinet Meeting in Tamenglong, Inaugurates Various Development Projects

Chief Minister inaugurates 24 projects and lays foundation of 18 projects worth Rs. 349.51 crore.

Chief Minister N. Biren chaired a cabinet meeting in Tamenglong district today. The meeting was held at Indoor Stadium Multipurpose Hall, Tamenglong. Before the cabinet meeting, a public function was held at Mini Stadium, Apollo ground. At the public function, the Chief Minister inaugurated 24 projects which include PHC, PHSC, Bailey Suspension Bridge (360ft span) over Barak River on Tamenglong Tousem-Haflong road, District Early Intervention Centre at District Hospital Tamenglong, water supply schemes etc. He also laid the foundation of 18 different projects. Among the projects, it includes Construction of Type-II, III and IV quarters in Tamenglong Police Station, Construction of Type-II and III quarters in Tamei and Tousem Police Station and Type-II quarters in Kaimai Police Station. Improvement of road from Kaiphundai (on NH-37) to Tousem 56.65 km (SH: phase-I) Construction of Rigid Pavement with thin white topping and interlocking paver blocks (RCC road) in Hill District Headquarters, Strengthening of IT road from Tamenglong/ Dailong to Palong, Transforming Bunning Meadows for sustainable water sources and promoting eco-tourism, Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Tousem, Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Pallong, Working Women Hostel at Tamenglong, etc.

Addressing the gathering at Apollo ground, the Chief Minister stated that Tamenglong will be the gateway of Manipur since the road connectivity is going to give a new standard of life. He mentioned that Tamenglong -Mahur road (NH-137) construction is in full swing, once its completed people will easily connect to Assam, no need to pass through Nagaland to go Guwahati. He said that but one thing we have to keep in mind is that Tamenglong-Mahur road which connects Assam many illegal immigrants will enter and this will give a big threat to our indigenous people of Manipur, let's not make our state like Tripura where indigenous population is in great danger. Shri N. Biren Singh urged those contractors who could not complete the works on stipulated time to avoid taking contractors from the government. The government will give only the contractor who can do their work sincerely, he added.

N. Biren Singh expressed his commitment to transform Tamenglong into the most developed district in Manipur. Highlighting the success of the “Go to Hills” initiative, he stated that it has allowed the government to identify and address local issues effectively.

The Chief Minister highlighted the success of the Chief Minister Haksel gi Tengbang scheme, launched in 2018, benefiting over 2,00,000 patients. He noted that the Manipur Government is investing approximately ₹280 crores in this initiative, helping residents save money on healthcare. He also said that despite many issues in Manipur, the BJP led government has taken many developmental works in Tamenglong like completion of Tamenglong – Khongsang road, water supply schemes, natural football ground, etc. He said that the BJP government does the work as promised, we will not compromise with work quality. He addressed the issue of electricity access, revealing that around 37,000 households still lack electricity. He urged residents to report their concerns to the District Administration or relevant departments. Additionally, he called for the maintenance of the Apollo Ground, emphasizing its unique grassy surface. The Chief Minister assured that development efforts will go equally in both Hills and Valleys.

N. Biren Singh further reiterated the importance of quality and timely completion of projects. He announced that the much-anticipated Tamenglong Amusement Park is set to open before the monsoon season this year, along with plans for cement concrete roads of Tamenglong town. The Chief Minister also raised concerns regarding illegal immigration and its potential impact on local tribes, stressing the need for strict measures to protect the cultural integrity of the Liangmai, Rongmei, Inpui and Zeme communities.

He also informed that the DIET Centre which was inaugurated recently in Noney district will be open very soon, all the arrangements regarding the teaching staffs and administration staffs is almost done to start a new session.

During the function, the Chief Minister handed over the Blood Bank license to Dr. Chambo Gonmei, Health Director, Government of Manipur. Mentioned may be made that Tamenglong is the only hill district in Manipur to have blood bank.
