Presidency College, Motbung, one of the oldest and only government colleges in Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi District, came alive today as it celebrated National Science Day 2025 with great enthusiasm and scientific fervor. The event, known as SciFest, served as a testament to the college’s remarkable transformation from a center once plagued by academic malpractices to a hub of scientific innovation and excellence.

National Science Day, observed across India on February 28, marks the groundbreaking discovery of the Raman Effect by legendary physicist Sir C.V. Raman in 1928. The day aims to promote awareness about the significance of science and its application in everyday life—a mission that Presidency College has embraced wholeheartedly.

The celebrations witnessed an inspiring display of scientific prowess as students participated in quiz and poster competitions, presenting well-designed projects with confidence and creativity. The participants showcased their innovative ideas and demonstrated their projects with precision before an enthusiastic audience and a panel of judges. The event was not just a competition but a celebration of curiosity, discovery, and innovation.

The significance of this year's SciFest was amplified by the recent inauguration of an IT Centre at the college by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, symbolizing the institution’s commitment to technological advancement and academic excellence. Despite challenges such as a shortage of teachers and infrastructure, the college has emerged as a beacon of scientific exploration and educational progress in the region.

"Science is the pathway to future opportunities" said Dr. Md. Amir Hussain, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Presidency College Motbung at SciFest 2025.

Emphasizing the transformative power of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in shaping the future of India’s youth, Dr. Hussain highlighted the immense career opportunities awaiting students who pursue science.

"Our objective today is clear—to inspire students to embrace science as a pathway to innovation, progress, and a secure future. Science is not just about theories; it is the key to unlocking countless job opportunities in emerging industries," he stated.

Quoting a recent survey, he underlined a striking statistic: “80% of the jobs created in the last decade have been in science-related fields.” This, he stressed, underscores the growing demand for STEM professionals in India and beyond.

Encouraging students to take up science as a career, Dr. Hussain reiterated that technological advancements and scientific research are driving the nation’s progress, making it crucial for young learners to engage in scientific pursuits.

From its past reputation as a site of mass copying and academic malpractices to becoming a powerhouse of scientific inquiry, Presidency College, Motbung, stands as an inspiring example of resilience and change. As SciFest 2025 concluded, the message was clear—science is not just a subject but a driving force for progress, and the students of Presidency College are ready to lead the way.
