In a swift and coordinated operation, the District Police of Churachandpur, along with the 19 Garhwal Rifles and 58 CRPF, successfully apprehended individuals involved in a disturbing incident of late-night gunfire near the CRPF G/129 campus.
At approximately 2:40 AM on April 24, unknown miscreants in a white vehicle opened three rounds of fire into the air while driving past the Old DC Guest House near the G/129 CRPF campus. The assailants were reportedly coming from the CCPur College side. Reacting swiftly, the sentry stationed at the CRPF main gate returned fire with a single round from his service rifle, prompting the attackers to flee the scene.
A case was promptly registered under FIR No. 68(4)2025 CCP-PS under sections 351(2)/3(5) BNS and 25(1-C) of the Arms Act. Security forces quickly mobilized, launching an intensive investigation that included analyzing multiple CCTV footages, activating ground intelligence networks, and establishing checkposts across key points in the district.
Thanks to this swift response, the vehicle used in the incident was identified and intercepted around 3:00 PM the same day. One of the occupants, Mr. Mangkholun Haokip, was arrested, and a 9mm pistol suspected to have been used in the shooting was recovered.
Further investigation revealed the alleged involvement of two police constables, Paominthang Haokip and Thonglenkhai, who have since been taken into custody.
The District Police emphasized their unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order, assuring the public that any act of violence is treated with utmost seriousness. “Any instance of gunfire spreads panic among the general population, and all such incidents are investigated on priority,” a police spokesperson stated.
Authorities also issued a caution to the public against believing or circulating unverified information. “Legal action will be initiated against anyone found spreading misinformation,” the police warned, urging citizens to cooperate with security forces to maintain peace in the region.
