The All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) has declared that they would launch picketing of the government offices in the hills districts of Manipur from October 23 to October 25, 2023 in protest against the prolonged internet shutdown.
In a statement issued on Sunday, ANSAM stated that picketing of government offices would be launched as its first step of agitation demanding to immediately lift the order of internet shutdown and restore internet connectivity in the peace area of the state. The other demand includes declaration of the result of the interview held in the month of September, 2021 for the appointment of 190 Posts of Assistant Professors (145 + 45 ST Special Drive) for government colleges of Manipur at the earliest.
ANSAM also warned that they might intensify the agitation if the legitimate demands are not fulfilled and also informed its constituent units and subordinate bodies to strictly enforce the proposed agitation in their respective jurisdictions.
ANSAM further appealed to the government officials and general public for utmost cooperation and understanding during the course of the agitation.
The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) had earlier made an ultimatum to the government through media on 17th October, 2023, giving five days of dateline to materialising its demands.
ANSAM stated that they acknowledged the efforts of government authorities to condemn the protracted conflict and restoration of peace in the state of Manipur; and at the same time, it expected the government to address the long overdue grievances of the public.
