Ahead of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's visit to Churachandpur district on April 28 for inauguration of Open Gym at PT Sports Complex, Khominthang, Churachandpur, an unruly mob set fire on the newly constructed Open Gym and dismantled the venue for public gathering, arranged at Sadbhavna Mandal, New Lamka.
As per sources culled from the spot, irate mobs gathered at PT Sports Complex, Khominthang area from around 6 pm, after which the unruly mob damaged the newly constructed Open Gym and set fire on it. The hall arrangement at Sadbhavna Mandap in New Lamka was also vandalised by the angry mob, damaging numerous Chairs and other furniture.
Notably, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) has call total shut down in Churachandpur district on April 28, 2023 (Friday) from 08:00 AM to 04:00 PM as a mark of dissatisfaction against the government and resolved not to support any government related programme.

The state government has also dispatched a large number of Police Commando from the state capital late this evening as reinforcement for security measures.
And in view of the volatile situation, the Additional District Magistrate, Churachandpur, S. Thienlaljoy Gangte imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in the whole area under the revenue jurisdiction of Churachandpur district, particularly within New Lamka, Churachandpur areas.
S. Thienlaljoy Gangte, who is also the Additional Deputy Commissioner of the district has written a letter to the Commissioner (Home), government of Manipur, requesting him to suspend internet or mobile data in Churachandpur district, alleging that there is likelyhood of mobilization of the public for protest through social media and networking sites which could lead to escalation of public unrest and unlawful activities in Churachandpur district.
