The Churachandpur Police personnel on Thursday paid their last respect to the fallen hero Onkhomang Haokip, Sub-Inspector, Manipur Police, who was shot dead by the Meitei terrorists' sniper at N. Chingphei under Churachandpur district yesterday.
To pay homage to the supreme sacrifice of the Kuki policeman, who laid down his life in the line of duty on Wednesday, a wreath laying ceremony was organized at the office complex of SP Churachandpur, Tuibong, with full honours.
Senior Police personnel, civil administration officers and Kuki legislators were present during the solemn ceremony. Christopher Doungel, DG (Prisons), belonging to the Kuki community was the senior most Police officer present during the event.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Churachandpur constituency MLA, LM Khaute said, "Paying a floral tribute to Sub-Inspector Onkhomang Haokip, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty while protecting N. Chingphei Village and its people on September 13, 2023."

The MLA expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members of the brave martyr.
Onkhomang Haokip was a sincere and hardworking policeman who had saved his people from a violent mob in Moirang on the day the ethnic violence broke out on May 3. The following day, he and his colleague (another Police Sub-Inspector) were attacked by a mob and damaged their vehicle. He then fled Moirang, Meitei inhabited town, and came to Churachandpur. Haokip was an honest police officer, who did not even have his own house and lived on rent. Recently he had got a police quarter allotted to him, Police source said.
A resident of DHQ Tuibong, Churachandpur, Haokip was survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
