The Joint Students’ Body of Lamka has stated that the Annual Day Celebration of Churachandpur Medical College in Imphal reminded one of the “repeated unethical attempts to relocate the College to one of the valley districts.”
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Joint Students’ Body strongly condemned the simultaneous celebration of the college annual day in the premises of the college in Churachandpur as well in Kyamgei, Imphal.
The students body stated that the annual day celebration of a medical college, based in one of the hill districts of Lamka, in Imphal epitomised the disdain of the majority community for tribal rights and the discrimination they face to this day.
Lamka JSB stated that while it has been fighting long and hard to prevent the relocation of the Medical College and for the proper functioning of it, such an unwanted celebration of the Annual Day in Imphal is veiwed as nothing short of an insult to the people of Lamka, especially in this time of civil war and displacement of medical students of the College.
On the other hand, the statement said, the annual day celebration of the ‘Lamka Medical College’ carried out on Saturday at the premises of the College was a reflection of God’s grace and guidance on the people of the district even in times of civil unrest.
