The University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted autonomous status to Churachandpur College, near District Hospital, Tipaimukh Road Junction, Churachandpur. The decision, made during the UGC meeting on January 16, 2024, follows the recommendation of the Standing Committee on Autonomous Colleges. The autonomous status, granted for a period of five years, spans from the academic year 2024-2025 to 2028-2029, in accordance with clause 7.4 of the UGC (Conferment of Autonomous Status upon Colleges and Measures for Maintenance of Standards in Autonomous Colleges) Regulations, 2023. The UGC has intimated to Manipur University to issue the necessary notification within 30 days to formalize the autonomous status granted to Churachandpur College.
With this latest addition, the hill districts now has three autonomous colleges, the other two being Don Bosco College, Maram in Senapati district, and Rayburn College in Churachandpur district.

The autonomy granted to Churachandpur College will empower the institution to innovate, develop its academic programs, and foster a culture of quality education and research. It is a significant milestone for the college and a testament to its dedication to maintaining high standards of education, it added.
