The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), a valley-based civil outfit, has expressed its disappointment over the State government's inability to deploy state security forces in the Hill areas of Moreh, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi; asking the government whether its presence of governance still exists in reality.

In a press briefing on Thursday, the Coordinator of COCOMI, Jeetendra Ningomba has alleged that a situation has been made in such a way that it becomes like a war between two different countries. The State government should know that the people are not satisfied with such a situation, he said while raising questions on whether there are separate laws in Hills and Valleys in Manipur.

"It is unfortunate that the State forces cannot enter Kangpoki, Churachandpur and Moreh," Jeetendra said, adding that such denying of movement and stationing of State forces to the Hills by certain people was not expected of happening in a democratic country.

The State and Centre forces were proactive in dealing with student protesters by using rubber bullets, smoke bombs and even pellet guns. However, they have not been able to enter Moreh till date, he said.

The security forces in Moreh have been claiming that they could not perform their duties as required since they have not received any order/ instruction from the government, Jeetendra added.

Encouraging the security forces in Moreh to perform their duties as required by the situation, COCOMI assured them that the people of Manipur stand by them and willing to face any action arising out of the higher authorities in case of any eventuality.
