The Committee on Tribal Unity Sadar Hills Kangpokpi's 72-hour total shutdown entered its second day today with the closure of all business establishments, Govt. offices, and educational institutions, and the halting of all vehicular movement.
However, the firing and boom of explosions filled the peripheral area of Kangpokpi at Phaileng village from 5:20 pm in the afternoon and the sporadic firing and boom of explosions continue till the filing of this report.
On the second day of the CoTU's total shutdown as well, volunteers mainly women were seen monitoring the movement of exempted vehicles.
The CoTU's second-day total shutdown was completely total again in the Kangpokpi district with shops, trade, schools, banks, and Government offices downing their shutters.
The otherwise busy National Highway-2 remained deserted as all vehicular movement remained off the road except for medical services and examinations.
Normal life has been hit hard owing to the CoTU's total shutdown as venturing out of people has also been strictly restricted.
Burning of tyres and putting up stones were also seen along the highway.
The CoTU's total shutdown will culminate tomorrow at midnight on July 19.
However, schools including Government and private will remain closed.
Business establishments and vehicular movement including private vehicles will be open only till 2:00 noon daily.
