DGP Changed: KSO, ZSF question State Govt's partisanship

The Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) and Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF) Friday questioned the alleged communal leaning and partisanship nature of the State government in dealing with state administration and law and order situation in the State.

In that regard, the KSO and ZSG asked the state government as to why the Director General of Police (DGP) who maintained neutrality despite the netizens of his own community being killed, raped, tortured and their houses set on fire in Imphal valley, where the Meiteis are in majority, was removed from his post over ethnicity lines.

A press statement jointly issued by the two student bodies stated that the Government of Manipur, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms in its order vide No. 25/10|2011-IPS-DP Dated 1st June, 2023 created a new post of OSD (Home), paving the way for the transfer of DGP, P. Doungel to OSD (Home) in his grade pay, just because he
belongs to the Kuki Community.

The statement stated that Doungel's commitment to his service was manifested when he took only one day leave and reported for duty the following day. If the DGP can be changed why not the Chief Minister who belongs to the Meitei community, and who also holds the portfolio of Home Department, be removed from his post, to ensure equality in all aspects.

"The partisan nature of the state government in removing Doungel from his official post and the reason spelled out is not convincing at all. In all fairness, the best way to ensure equality will be removing the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, who also heads the state Home Department," the statement read.

KSO and ZSF also said that the partisan nature in facilitating internet services in the state has also casted a doubt on the state government. While a probe has been ordered into misuse of internet connection by some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and users in Churachandpur District, the same has been excluded in Imphal valley areas, the student bodies said, and added that the state government discriminative nature has been once again manifested by providing a temporary Internet Facilitation Center at NIELIT Campus at Akampat for use by public, while the same has been denied in all the hill districts.

The press released further stated that the inhumane act of physical assault on a BJP MLA, Pu Vungzagin Valte, to the point of near death, after a meeting with the Chief Minster was highly suspect, and it was obvious that even Tribal MLAs who dared disagree with the government were not being spared.

KSO and ZSF reiterated that if the communal leanings of the state government knew no bounds, they would fight till the end, until they achieve ‘Separate Administration’.
