District Road Safety Committee Meeting Held In Churachandpur

In view of the increasing number of road accident District Administration, Churachandpur today organized District Road Safety Committee meeting at Mini-Secretariat Conference Hall, Tuibong, Churachandpur. The meeting was conducted to give awareness and taking preventive measures to reduce accident- related fatalities of the district.

The Meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S. He appealed to all government officials and civil organizations to coordinate to provide road safety information to the people and encourage safer road user behavior among the public to reduce the number of people killed and injured on roads in the district every year. He also said that efforts has been initiated for the safety of road users of the district.

During the meeting Chief Medical Officer presented about the emergency response and accident management, enhancing first responder and status of ambulance and trauma care facilities. She mention that related to traffic accident a total of 50 casualties are recorded since October 2024 to February 2025. In relation to Hit and Run cases since October 2024 to January 2025, 6 casualties and since 5th January 2025 to 10th February 2025 there are 7 casualties, she said.

General Manager, NHIDCL, PMU, Churachandpur, highlighted the status of road conditions and maintenance, preventive measures including speed breakers, signage, pedestrian crossing etc through slideshow. He also highlighted the Project overview Churachandpur to Tuivai road (NH-102B). Other important he highlighted included the objectives of road safety measures under PMU Churachandpur, Identification and Mitigation of black spots. The Statistical records ,major factors of accident vehicles user responsibilities and  pedestrian user responsibilities traffic signage are also mentioned by the general manager during the meeting.

SP Churachandpur presented the importance of identification of high-risk zones, penal provision and challenges faced in enforcement and implementations besides strengthening traffic regulations and enforcement mechanism. He also highlighted challenges faced in re-enforcement  and implementation strengthen traffic regulations and enforcement mechanism to the gathering.

Additional DC Thangboi Gangte highlighted compensatory Schemes for hit and run cases.  The details of compensation process which included enquiries, final order, payment claiming compensation for hit and run accidents which included a clamant, claims settlement/DC. He also highlighted important notes of claimants which included eligibility compensation amount, refund, require documents for claims including Bank Account, ID and address proof and FIR and Death certificate during the meeting.

Later, the some co-opted members also shared their views for road safety and reducing accidents and proposed constructive suggestions for road safety.
