Govt. Offices in Churachandpur, Pherzawl Districts Shut Over Continued Detention of 2 Civilians

By THJ Staff — On January 22, 2024

Protesting the continued detention of two individuals in Moreh, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) and various Kuki-Zo student bodies initiated the closure of government offices in Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts on Monday.

The closed offices include Agriculture, Sericulture, District Information, Public Works, Public Health and Engineering, Cooperative Society, Electricity, District Statistical, Forest, Telecom, and the Mini Secretariat.

On January 21, ITLF declared the closure of all government offices in the two districts until the demand for the release of Philip Khongsai and Hemkholal Mate, two innocent Kuki Zo civilians, is met.

Despite the joint demand by ITLF and COTU on January 16 for the immediate and unconditional release of the two individuals detained by Manipur Commandos on January 15, they remain in custody.

Additionally, on January 19, the Joint Students Body Lamka and Kuki Students Organisation protested by locking the District Administration Offices in Chuarachandpur and Pherzawl against the disaffiliation of 25 schools from CBSE, the unjust suspension of three Kuki-Zo ZEO officials, and the destruction of Schools in Moreh by Manipur state commandos.
