With regard to the Government's attempt to deploy state security forces in Moreh, the Kuki civil society organizations have said that the intention of the Government was life-threatening for the Kuki-Zo tribals as there are significant number of Arambai Tengol and Meitei Leepun, often camouflaging themselves as Commandos, IRB and other state forces.
"The Kuki Chiefs' Association (KCA), Tengnoupal, Kuki Students' Organisation, Tengnoupal District and Kuki Women Union & Human Rights (KWU&HR), Tengnoupal District, is extremely horrified and shocked with the attempt of the State Government of Manipur in trying to sent Meitei State Forces to Moreh Town predominantly inhabited by the Kuki-Zo Tribals," Kuki CSOs said.
In its press release on Saturday, Kuki civil bodies stated that there were many instances of the State Forces leading the Meitei mob in carrying out arsoning and attacking of the Kuki-Zo tribals in different parts of Manipur. Deployment of State Forces particularly the Meiteis in Kuki-Zo areas before political settlement would rather escalate tension instead of maintaining Law and Order situation, it stated.
Since Friday, the Kuki-Zo tribals of Tengnoupal District have been holding peaceful protest by blocking Imphal-Moreh Road (NH-102) for fear of the movement of State security forces towards Moreh in particular and Tengnoupal District in general.
Kuki CSOs said, "Therefore, It is our appeal to all the concerned authorities to take note of the grave situation in which the Kuki-Zo Tribals are forcibly put into."
