Protesting against the alleged illegal tax collection by valley-based Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the Joint Action Committee (JAC) representing commercial vehicles operating along the Imphal-Ukhrul road has announced an indefinite bandh starting from March 6.
The decision was made following a joint coordination meeting held on March 3, attended by various transport services unions, including those representing buses, wingers, pickups, trucks, and other vehicles catering to essential commodities and passenger services in Ukhrul district.
In a press release issued on March 3, the JAC highlighted its unanimous resolution to enforce the bandh until the issue of illegal tax collection is addressed by the relevant authorities of the state government.
Accusing valley-based CSOs such as the All Manipur Pony Conservation Forum and All Manipur Youth Welfare Federation of imposing daily illegal taxes on transport service providers along the Imphal-Ukhrul-Imphal route under the guise of donations, the JAC emphasized the need for immediate action to resolve the matter.
