Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum Announces Plans to Honor Jiribam Martyrs

In a show of respect, ITLF has called for a complete shutdown on December 5, 2024, to honor the martyrs.

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) held an emergency meeting today to discuss the tragic deaths of the martyrs killed in Jiribam recently. The meeting resulted in several key resolutions to honor the fallen and ensure that proper procedures are followed.

Postmortem Reports Reviewed: Forensic and legal experts reviewed the postmortem reports and confirmed that they were satisfactory. The ITLF Legal Cell, along with the Hmar Students Association (HSA), will take further legal actions in response to the deaths.

Martyrs’ Burial and Condolences Program: ITLF announced that the twelve martyrs will be laid to rest with full honor and respect on December 5, 2024. A program to pay condolences will be held at Peace Ground in Tuibuong. A committee has been formed to plan the event.

Final Homecoming Ceremony: The martyrs’ families will have the opportunity to perform the final rites and homecoming ceremony on the afternoon of December 4, 2024.

Silent Rally on Burial Day: On December 5, a massive silent rally will take place as the bodies of the martyrs are transported from Ngurte and the surrounding villages to the Public Ground in Hiangtam Lamka. The procession will then continue to Peace Ground.

Total Shutdown on December 5: In a show of respect, ITLF has called for a complete shutdown on December 5, 2024, to honor the martyrs.

The ITLF has requested the Joint Philanthropic Organization (JPO) to arrange for the transportation of the martyrs' remains and preparation of their graves at the Martyrs Cemetery in Sehken. Student organizations are urged to prepare placards and banners for the silent rally.

The ITLF expressed deep gratitude to the JPO and HSA for their selfless efforts in ensuring the dignified transfer of the martyrs’ remains, acknowledging their dedication and compassion.
