IPC's Creative Expression Competition Inspires Hope and Healing for Conflict-Affected Youth in Manipur

Kanggui Christian College, Kangpokpi District Headquarters, became a hub of creativity and healing today as it hosted the Prize Distribution Program for the Creative Expression on Art and Poetry Competition.

Organized by the India Peace Centre in collaboration with Kanggui Christian College and the Saikul Area Theological Students' Union, the event brought together children and teenagers from across the Sadar Hills region to explore the theme “Confidence Building.” The competition, held on December 1, aimed to provide a therapeutic outlet for young participants impacted by the turmoil in Manipur.

The initiative emphasized the transformative power of art and poetry in enabling children to process their emotions. "Art and poetry often enable children to communicate emotions they may struggle to convey in words," remarked Soson, Academic Dean of Kanggui Christian College. He described the competition as a safe space for participants to express their feelings, promoting emotional release, psychological healing, and self-confidence.

“This platform allows young people to reflect on their experiences and envision a brighter, more peaceful future,” he added, highlighting the long-term impact of creative expression in fostering resilience.

The competition was divided into categories tailored to different age groups, each focusing on relevant themes:

Category 1 (6–12 years): “Strength in Unity” – Overcoming challenges together.

Category 2 (13–19 years): “Hope and Healing” – A vision of peace and renewal for the future.

Poetry Competition (13–19 years): “Confidence Building and Resilience” – Expressing strength, hope, and overcoming adversity.

The program concluded with the recognition of outstanding talents. Artworks and poems that best captured the theme “Confidence Building” were honored with first, second, and third prizes, along with 10 consolation prizes per category. Winners were also awarded certificates for their achievements.

Art Competition Category 1 (6–12 years):

1st Place: Mangchinlen Khongsai (Paomang Memorial Academy)

2nd Place: Lengunchung (Good Shepherd School)

3rd Place: K. Thangneilen (Model English Higher Secondary School)

Art Competition Category 2 (13–19 years):

1st Place: Hoineingah Kipgen (Presidency College, Motbung)

2nd Place: Lamkiphoi Kipgen (Christian English High School)

3rd Place: Kimnunnem Haokip (Presidency College, Motbung)

Poetry Competition (13–19 years):

1st Place: Jolly Baite (Model English Higher Secondary School)

2nd Place: Hoisangi Haokip (Presidency College, Motbung)

3rd Place: Lamminhoi Haokip (Kangpokpi Ward No. 16)

In addition, 10 consolation prizes were awarded in each category to encourage and celebrate the creative efforts of participants.

The Creative Expression on Art and Poetry Competition underscored the importance of creativity in promoting healing and resilience. By offering young minds a platform to articulate their thoughts and emotions, the event not only nurtured their artistic talents but also helped them envision a peaceful future.
