Following their protest against the disaffiliation of 25 schools from CBSE, the unjust suspension of three ZEO officials, and the recent burning of schools in Moreh allegedly by Police Commandos, the Joint Students Body (JSB) Lamka and Kuki Students’ Organization Churachandpur took further action today by locking the offices of the District Administration in Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts on Friday.
This symbolic act is a continuation of their protest against the authorities' lack of response to their demands for reinstating the suspended officials and re-affiliating the schools under CBSE.
Leaders of the JSB Lamka and KSO Churachandpur, along with volunteers, locked the gates of the two district administration offices on Friday morning.
Speaking to the media after locking the gates, Joint Secretary of JSB Lamka, Samuel Taithul, expressed frustration at the absence of a positive response to their demand for the reversal of the disaffiliation of the 25 schools in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts from CBSE.
Samuel asserted that the disaffiliation of the schools occurred due to political pressure and interference by the state government. The students' body is urging the central government to resist the influence and pressure exerted by the state government. Samuel emphasized that all schools once affiliated with CBSE, later disaffiliated, must be affiliated again. He stated that the locked government offices will remain closed indefinitely until their demands are fulfilled.
On January 18, 2024, various schools and students in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi district headquarters conducted a mass rally demanding the reversal of disaffiliation for 25 schools by CBSE, the reinstatement of three suspended ZEO officials, and an inquiry into the burning of three schools in Moreh.
