Upset about the suspension of three ZEO (Zonal Education Officer) officials and the disaffiliation of 26 schools under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts, the Joint Students’ Body (JSB) Lamka took action by locking the offices of ZEO in Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts on Monday. Members and volunteers of JSB Lamka went to the ZEO offices, where they locked the gates in the afternoon.
After securing the offices, Samuel Taithul, the spokesperson for Joint Students Body Lamka, addressed the media, explaining that the decision to lock the offices followed a 48-hour ultimatum given by JSB to the relevant authorities. Samuel stated that this action serves as a protest against the unfair suspension of three ZEO officers from the Kuki-Zo community. Additionally, he highlighted the necessity of this move due to the disaffiliation of 26 schools under CBSE in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts.
Samuel urged the central government to reconsider its decision to suspend the ZEO officials and disaffiliation of schools. It may be mentioned here that on January 12, JSB Lamka had appealed to the CBSE Chairman to reverse the decision to disaffiliate the 26 schools in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts. In their letter, JSB Lamka expressed a commitment to take all necessary actions to overturn what they deemed an unjust disaffiliation.
