Kangpokpi Inspires Action on National Girl Child Day with a Vision for shaping a bright future

The event concluded on a high note with a renewed pledge to prioritize the empowerment and welfare of girls in the community.

Kangpokpi district enthusiastically joined the nation in celebrating National Girl Child Day, a momentous occasion dedicated to raising awareness about the rights, opportunities, and potential of girls across the country.

With the theme "Empowering Girls for a Bright Future," the event was held at the Conference Hall of District Hospital Kangpokpi under the aegis of the District Health Society, Kangpokpi.

The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Lhingkhoneng Haokip, District Malaria Officer, followed by a comprehensive keynote address delivered by Dr. Paokai Kipgen, in-charge Chief Medical Officer and Chairman of the District Health Society. The event was skillfully moderated by Holminlun Khongsai, District Epidemiologist, NCD.

The event was graced by Ngaineikim Kipgen, retired District and Sessions Judge, as the Chief Guest. In her insightful speech, she traced the history and significance of National Girl Child Day, which was established in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development to tackle pressing issues such as gender discrimination, child marriage, and female foeticide.

She emphasized the relevance of this year's theme, "Empowering Girls for a Bright Future," underscoring the necessity of equal access to education, healthcare, and professional opportunities for girls. She remarked that empowering girls is not only a fundamental human right but also a cornerstone for building a more equitable and prosperous society.

Ngaineikim Kipgen highlighted the transformative role of community awareness and government-led initiatives in fostering an environment where girls can achieve their full potential. She called upon parents, educators, community leaders, and policymakers to work together to dismantle barriers that hinder girls’ development and to actively celebrate their achievements.

The event featured interactive discussions and an engaging session with girl students from various educational institutions who attended the program. These interactions provided a platform for the students to voice their aspirations and challenges.

The event concluded on a high note with a renewed pledge to prioritize the empowerment and welfare of girls in the community. The concluding session was effectively moderated by Dr. Len Kamkhosat Khongsai, District Tuberculosis Officer, ensuring an impactful and inspiring finish to the celebration.
