KSO Education Secretary meets Mizoram CM to address grievances of Kuki-Zo students

Education Secretary of KSO General Headquarters, Thangmoi Haokip, has met the Chief Minister of Mizoram, Zoramthanga, pertaining to the issue of failure of educational system in Manipur in the wake of ethnic violence which broke out on May 3, 2023.

Due to the ethnic clash between a majority community and the minority tribal community in Manipur, the functioning of educational institutions from Secondary to University level has impacted largely, thus jeopardizing the students academic prospects.

In view of the prevailing situation in Manipur, Thangmoi Haokip on Friday met Mizoram CM for addressing the grievances faced by the students from Kuki-Zo community in Manipur.

The Education Secretary has requested Zoramthanga for his kind intervention in matters of affected students in Manipur for exploring 'alternative arrangement' in Mizoram.

Thangmoi said with a pressing concern regarding the ongoing ethnic-cleansing in Manipur and its impact on educational institutions in the region with such a time of uncertainty and continuous violence, the career and life of students has become the need of the hours.

"The ethnic conflict severely affected students community especially Kuki-Zo in Manipur that eventually jeopardize their future prospects. At this hour of civil unrest, it is highly impossible for affected students to return back to Imphal," he said, and requested the Chief Minister of Mizoram to explore any possible means for the students to mitigate the adverse effects of such unforeseen and unfortunate event.

He also said that most of the Kuki-Zo students who studied at Manipur University, DM University and other professionals institutions hesitated to return back to their respective Institutions due to fear psychosis and insecurity. He appealed that those affected students could get the chance to continue their studies in Mizoram University.

For the students of studying Class X and Class XII students, Thangmoi Haokip alao requested the Mizoram CM to provide accommodation and continuation of their studies in Mizoram Board without hardship and hurdle.

KSO leader further said that the Chief Minister of Mizoram assured him that he would discuss the matter to all his cabinet for future course of action and to explore all possibilities to the concern Ministry of the Government of India. Mizoram CM also assured that those students below Class XII could take their admission to Mizoram Government Schools or Colleges to continue the existing courses.
