The apex body of the Kuki students in Kangpokpi Sadar Hills, the Kuki Students' Organization Sadar Hills sought to register an FIR against Meitei Leepun's chief Pramot Singh to the Superintendent of Police Kangpokpi as it also posed eighteen questions for the Union Home Minister and Manipur Chief Minister.
The student body requested the SP of Kangpokpi to register an FIR against Pramot Singh, chief of the Meitei Leepun for openly spreading hate speech and discriminatory remarks against the Kuki community in his interview with Karan Thapar on June 6 for The Wire.
The KSO Sadar Hills seek an FIR against the Meitei Leepun's chief considering the Orders of the Supreme Court on October 21, 2022, January 31, 2023, and April 28, 2023, in the case of Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay vs Union of India & Ors (Justice K.M. Joseph and Justice B.V Nagarathna) for openly spreading hate speech and discriminatory remarks against the Kuki community in his interview in The Wire with anchor Karan Thapar.
The student body stated that the Meitei Leepun is an organization which claimed to work to unite the people of the Meitei community settling in different parts of the globe. However, it is a communal organization with a Meitei nationalist agenda to strengthen and safeguard the interest of only the Meitei community at the cost of other communities.
It also stated that Pramot Singh's organization, the Meitei Leepun have their own volunteers and units everywhere, in all the districts of the hills and valleys and conducted meetings at the meeting hall set up by them at various places.
The KSO Sadar Hills also stated that Pramot Singh openly declared in the interview with Karan Thapar that if the Government, either in Delhi or in Manipur, does not intervene quickly, "there will be civil war" and the "Kukis will not be able to defend themselves" while bluntly stating that the Kukis would be "wiped out" in the 15 kilometres, where he claimed, they [the Kukis] set up roadblocks and encroachments.
Pramot Singh also categorically proclaimed in the interview that the Kukis are "outsiders" and they are not part of the family and are not "indigenous to Manipur" while describing them [the Kukis] as "tenants" in Manipur, the KSO stated.
It also stated that more importantly, the Meitei Leepun's chief, Pramot Singh said in the interview that the majority of the Kukis are "illegal" although he did not have any facts and evidence to back up his claim.
The student body further stated that Pramot Singh in his tweet/post on April 28, 2023 had stated that "This is the right time....let's annihilate our traditional rival on the hills and live peacefully" which is a proof preplanned intention to attack the Kuki community.
On the same day, Pramot Singh in his facebook post stated that, "Cut down the forest, dry up the rivers, finish them off, meanwhile let's build a homeland....this is our time. Then let's annihilate our traditional river on the hills and live peacefully thereafter", stated the KSO.
The student body then stated the above extracted speeches indicate Pramot Singh's hatred and inciting and promoting enmity against the Scheduled Tribe community in general and the Kuki community in particular, while urging the SP Kangpokpi to register an FIR immediately against the Meitei Leepun's chief Pramot Singh in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court in Lalita Kumari's case.
Meanwhile, deeply concerned about the escalating violence that has engulfed the state since May 3, the KSO Sadar Hills seek answers and accountability from the Home Minister of India and the Chief Minister of Manipur regarding the deteriorating law and order situation and the safety of the people as the wide-scale violence has resulted in immense suffering, loss of innocent lives, and a widespread sense of fear and insecurity among the residents.
As a student body, the KSO said, we strongly condemned any form of violence and firmly believe that every individual has the right to live in a peaceful and secure environment.
The Kuki Students' Organization Sadar Hills then posed eighteen questions for the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Manipur's Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to answer.
