Kuki Inpi Manipur endorses UNC proposed mass rally for Indo-Naga political solution

By THJ Staff — On August 7, 2023

The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has declared that it endorsed the proposed mass rally being organised by the United Naga Council (UNC) in all Naga inhabited areas on August 9, 2023 in support of early political solution for the Nagas.

In a press release on Monday, Secretary Information and Publicity of KIM, Janghaolun Haokip said: “At a critical time wherein the tribal Kukis of Manipur are being subjected to bear the brunt of 'ethnic cleansing' being unleashed by the majority Meiteis, aided and abetted covertly by the State machineries, the Kuki Inpi Manipur fully endorsed the proposed mass rally being organised by the United Naga Council on 9th August.”

Janghaolun stated that enduring the apathetic attitude of the successive Manipur governments for over fifty years vis-a-vis denial of tribals constitutional rights and institutional injustices meted out by the majoritarian hegemony in socio-politico and economic spheres upon the suppressed tribal communities, it is prudent on the part of the central leadership to act conscientiously.

The Centre government must expedite the processes of resolving the legitimate demands of both the tribal communities in the form of separate administration for the Kukis and in conformity with the Framework Agreement for the Nagas so as to ensure lasting peace in the beleaguered, torn-apart State of Manipur, KIM stated.

The United Naga Council (UNC) had announced that a mass rally would be organised on August 9 in all Naga inhabited areas of Manipur, demanding early solution to the Indo-Naga peace talk.

As per UNC, the rally is being planned to be held at District Headquarters of Tamenglong, Chandel, Ukhrul and Senapati.

Indo-Naga political talks began in the year 1997 and the Framework Agreement between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) was signed in the year 2015. The Framework Agreement could not be finalized as the NSCN (IM) sticks to the demand for separate flag and constitution for the Nagas.
