Kuki Inpi Publishes Chronology of Jiribam Violence, Condemns Atrocities by Meitei Radicals

The Kuki Inpi  Jiribam, Tamenglong, and Noney districts has released a detailed chronology of the recent violence in Jiribam, condemning the actions of Meitei radicals. In a statement issued today, the Kuki Inpi highlighted a series of atrocities perpetrated by the Meitei community, shedding light on the ongoing unrest in the region.

The statement outlines specific incidents of violence, including attacks on Kuki civilians, destruction of property, and attempts to instigate communal tensions.  The Kuki Inpi's statement aims to raise awareness of the gravity of the situation and calls for accountability from the authorities to address the perpetrators of these heinous acts.

Chronology of Jiribam Violence from 4th May, 2023 to November 2024

1. May 4, 2023: Members of Arambai Tenggol attacked Raniveng-Mission Compound, Kuki Zo locality in Jiribam. Burnt/Torches 5 houses, Jiribam Peace Committee formed the next day which includes all communities of Jiribam.

2. Feb 21, 2024 : Members of Arambai Tenggol abducted six (6) Kaimai villagers of Tamenglong district who pass through Jiribam for shopping. Later released with intervention if security forces.

3. March 11, 2024: Around 50 numbers of UNLF militants marched towards Sejang & Mongbung villages. The plan to attack these two villages was foiled by Assam Rifles and timely intervention prevent major violence.

4. March 12, 2024: UNLF militants advance towards Phaitol and firing some shots towards Phaitol village.

5. March 28, 2024: Bomb blast at Durgapur, Jakuradhor by UNLF militants.

6. April 22, 2024: Meira Paibis & AT banned entry of Kuki people in Jiribam. They frisk every vehicles at Gularthol bazaar.

7. May 2, 2024: Two Kuki Zo houses burnt down at Uchathol.

8. May 14, 2024: Mr Seigoulen Singson of phaitol village was abducted from Police Check point in Phaitol and later on 17th May, tortured & decomposed body found in Jiri river and his latest mobile location was at Dibong, Meetei locality of Jiribam.

9. June 6, 2024: Peace Agreement shattered after Arambai Tenggol & Meetei militants open attack Kuki Zo localities in Jiribam town after two days of declaration of Lok Sabha Election. Arambai Tenggol took advantage of the death of Mr Saratkumar Singh to blame KukiZo people whose death was most likely election related incident. Uchathol, Vengnuam, Raniveng-Mission Compund, Sounkoveng etc all Kuki Zo settlements in Jiribam town was attack simultaneously. Only, Raniveng-Mission compound was saved due to the presence of Assam Rifles while every KukiZo localities are now burned and abandoned. One L Muangpu Langgel was dragged out from his house in Vengnuam by members of Arambai Tenggol before in front of his kids and was never found again. Meetei Meira Paibis and Arambai Tenggol cut off supplies to Kuki-Zo villages and still continue till date.

10. June 12, 2024: KukiZo houses in Kalinagar torched and continuous attack on Raniveng-Mission Compound by Meetei militants carried out. Kuki Inpi called Highway bandh against high handedness of Security forces and also against State government giving free hand to Meetei militants who cut off supplies to KukiZo villages. On June 21, Agreement with Tamenglong District Authority represented by SP, Tamenglong, CO 39 AR, CO CRPF, Jiribam SP and Kuki CSOs was signed and Highway bandh was called off after Security forces assured for non disturbances of movements of Kuki-Zo essential commodities.

11. June 24, 2024: KukiZo houses in Kalinagar namely Darrochan hmar, Lalzom Gangte, Zonunmoi Hmar, Henry Joute, HN Lala Hmar, Soibuong Vaiphei, Raltawnmui Hmar, Lalneimuong Hmar,Dinga Hmar, Robert Ngaihte, James Thangkhanpau were either vandalized, looted or occupied.

12. July 7, 2024: Phaitol Village was attacked by combined Manipur Police Commandos led by Col Retd Nectar Sanjenbam and Meetei militants. Several houses of phaitol village including the house of Kuki Inpi Secretary were burnt down by attackers. Security forces mishandled Phaitol women folks who protested against security operation. Seven women were injured in the scuffle . Two boys, one underage who refuse to fled from their village were arrested and yet to be release.

13. July 9, 2024: In the night, UNLF militants attack Mongbung and Sejang villages and District Police under the directive of Col Retd Nectar conducted Security operation in Mongbung village where Police personnel ransacked all food items and essential items of villagers , Villagers protested to authorities.

14. July 14, 2024: Police Commandos with Bullet Proof vehicles attack Mongbung and Sejang villages in the guise of Security Operation. Mongbung and Sejang village volunteers retaliated with license single barrel guns. Unfortunately, CRPF Jawan was killed most probably from Police commandos firing. Mongbung & Sejang villagers appeal to concern authority to investigate thoroughly against the death of CRPF personnel at Mongbung & Sejang.

15. August 31, 2024: Mass Protest Rally against Biren Singh leak Audio tape held in Tatbung village, Tamenglong.

16. Sept 7, 2024: Four Kuki-Zo villagers were killed by UNLF militants who were base at Nunshekpi . Between 7th Sept to 29th Sept incessant attack on Mongbung and Sejang villages carried out by combined forces of UNLF, AT and other VBIGs abetted by Police Commandos. Eighteen times of attacked carried out by Meetei militants on Mongbung and Sejang which was within three weeks time in September. On 20th September, the attacked started from around 9:30 pm and continue till 5am in the morning. Mortars and Bombs were used by the attackers.

17. October 18, 2024: Blooming Flower Foundation School, Kalinagar Jiribam was burned by Meetei miscreants in the night of 18th October and in retaliation Hmar volunteers issue notice to Meitei living in Borobekra areas to leave within 24 hours.

18. November 7, 2024: Zairon village was attacked by Arambai Tenggol and Group of Five( G5) in the night. Mrs Zosangkim Hmar of Zairon, mother of three children was brutally raped and tortured before being burned beyond recognition. Limbs were cut off, brains gouge out and video of the violence viral in social media.

19. November 10, 2024: Hmar Village Volunteers retalitiates to Zairon incident leading to unfortunate incident of the dead of six women including children and also Ten Hmar volunteers.

20. November 16, 2024: HaoJoel Doungel S/O Seilam Doungel of Pangmol Village, Tamenglong who went to Hmarkhawlien to see of his pregnant wife was abducted from Jirighat area by Meetei militants. His brutally tortured and deformed dead body was recovered from Aglapur Village, Jiribam.

On the other hand, the same night, Meitei mobs led by Militants burned down five churches in Kalinagar and more than eight houses belonging to Hmar Community.
