In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) and Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF) have called upon the Kuki-Zo community to observe a total shutdown on May 3, 2025, marking the second anniversary of what they described as the "outbreak of ethnic cleansing."

The two prominent student bodies have urged all educational institutions, businesses, and other establishments to remain closed on that day. They also requested residents to hoist black flags at their homes as a sign of mourning and solidarity with the victims.

"As the 2nd anniversary of the outbreak of ethnic cleansing approaches, we exhort all to observe May 3 in solemn silence," the joint statement read.

According to the release, the day will feature two key observances: a mass prayer at the Martyrs' Cemetery and a public gathering at the Wall of Remembrance (WoR). The student bodies encouraged maximum participation in these events, while also requesting the public to refrain from all normal activities in honor of those lost.
