Lamka: Independence Day celebrated with splendour

The 77th Independence Day was celebrated at Peace Ground, Tuibong here today with grandeur. Deputy Commissioner of the District Dharun Kumar hoisted the tricolour flag and received the guard of honour.

About 21 parade contingents including BSF, Civil Police, School students and AR Band party took part in the Independence Day parade today.

Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, Dharun Kumar lauded the collaborative efforts of all concerned and the active participation of local organisations, community group and individuals in various initiatives particularly in connection with relief distribution in the district.

“Disaster can impact any of us unexpectedly and it is during these moments that we witness the remarkable spirit of our District,” Dharun Kumar said, and added that the relief efforts have been possible due to the tireless work of numerous individuals, volunteers, organisations and government agencies.
He further said that the relief distribution goes beyond just providing essential supplies – it is about demonstrating compassion and empathy towards fellow citizens who are facing hardships. Every relief package, every meal and every helping hand extended is a gesture that reaffirms ones’ commitment to each other’s well-being.

Highlighting the achievements of various departments, the DC said that the education department has succeeded in identifying about 4741 students (pre-primary to Class XII) from 107 relief camps in the district, out of which 4479 ie 94.5 percent were re-admitted to Govt, ADC and Private Schools of the district.

“The development of our district is a shared goal. Government initiatives, private sector involvement, and the active participation of citizens are all essential components. By working together, we can accelerate progress, ensure equitable growth, and enhance the quality of life for all residents,” he said.

The district's strength lies in its diverse communities, each with its unique strengths and needs. When people come together to address common issues, the entire community is uplifted. He then appealed to all to embrace an inclusive approach where every voice is heard, and every individual given the opportunity to contribute.

It is the shared determination and collective efforts that truly define a community in times of adversity, he said.
He reminded all to remember that freedom comes with responsibilities. Our responsibility is to uphold the values that our nation was founded upon and to contribute to its growth and prosperity. “Let us strive for a society where every individual has an equal opportunity to thrive and succeed, regardless of their background,” he added.

Stating that ‘responsibility’ is the values of the nation was founded upon, he urged all concerned to work tirelessly towards the betterment of the district and stand united in purpose.

In recognition of their outstanding and valuable services to the district, 108 government employees, 14 Philanthropic Organizations and 75 personnel of Central Paramilitary Forces were presented appreciation certificates on the occasion.

Amongst others, Smt. Mannuamching, IAS District Nodal Officer (Relief), Kabib K, IGP, LM Haokip, DIG, Karthik Malladi, SP, Churachandpur, L. Khongsai, Commandant, 1st IRB, and other Central Armed forces, District Level Officers, Tribe leaders, attended the Independence Day celebration programme.

Presentation of cultural items and songs by various troupes and artistes marked the celebration programme.
