The Bharatiya Janata Party, Manipur Pradesh has requested the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi to replace the Assam Rifles deployed in the State, particularly in the Hill areas, by any other paramilitary forces permanently in the interest of the general public

The BJP Manipur Pradesh submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister on Monday claiming that the role of the Assam Rifles in regard to the recent ethnic unrest, in maintaining peace and tranquility in the state has been under considerable amount of criticism and public outrage. It sought the Prime Minister’s intervention in bringing an amicable solution on the ongoing ethnic unrest at the earliest.

The memorandum stated that since day one, i.e May 3, the Assam Rifles had failed to maintain neutrality so as to restore peace in the state. The public anger and protest over the Assam Rifles for playing the role of partisanship in this highly delicate and sensitive ethnic unrest continues to be witnessed unabated even today, it stated.

The Memorandum also stated that the Assam Rifles has been charged by the public for their bias role in tackling the situation by favoring and supporting one side only. Such glaring example could be seen in the Kwakta Incident of 4th August wherein three civilians were killed brutally allegedly by Kuki terrorists while they were sleeping at their homes, BJP Manipur cited.

The state force in pursuit of the killers acted swiftly and was about to caught them when they were stopped by the Assam Rifles on the road by placing the army vehicle directly in middle of the roads leading to the village where the Kuki militants were stationed, the memorandum stated while adding that the incident was not the first case on many cases the Assam Rifles have acted similarly.
