Manipur: Violence continues in Kangpokpi despite suspension of road blockade

All is not well even after the suspension of road blockade along the National Highway-2 as the warring Meitei community continues to attack Kuki villages of Phaileng, Luwangsanggol areas and Kangchup areas in the foothills of Kangpokpi district.

Gun firing has been heard the whole day as the Arambai Tenggol militant, police commandos and IRB personnel attacked Phaileng and Luwangsanggol villages with sophisticated weapons at around 12:40 am at midnight on June 5.

The gunfight then continued the whole day, with the warring Meitei community continuing on attacking and the other warring Kuki community indulged in counter-attack to defend their villages. However,no casualties have been reported till the filing of this report.

In another firing incident at Kangchup area, the alleged Meitei radicalized groups, the Arambai Tenggol, and the state police commandos and IRB personnel with sophisticated weapons had a heavy attack on Kangchup Songlung village and ultimately burnt it down to ashes.

It was reported that in its counter-attack to defend the village, the Kuki volunteers shot dead around six persons during the gunfight.

Meanwhile, a minor boy and his mother along with one woman companion were allegedly burnt to death after brutally torturing them yesterday at Iroisemba in Imphal West district.

The incident occurred when the trio were on their way towards Imphal for treatment of the minor boy who got a bullet injury on his head when the Meitei radicalized groups attacked Kangchup area.

According to the Leilon Village Authority and Leilon Area Coordination Committee, the minor boy, aged around 7 years, son of Joshua Tonsing Hangshing of Kangchup Chingkhong was fired by the alleged Meitei extremist on his head.

The minor boy accompanied by his mother Meena, who is from the Meitei community and another woman Lydia, wife of Naoton of Kangchup Twikun, who is also from the Meitei community rushed the boy for RIMS Hospital for treatment.

However, they were unfortunately, stopped by the huge mobs mostly the Meira Pabis and burnt them to death at Iroisemba at around 7:30 pm.

Meanwhile, the attacked and counter-attacked on the part of both warring communities still continue at Phaileng and Luwangsanggol area till the filing of this report.
