The Meitei Council Moreh( MCM) has drawn attention of the State government to reconsider its decision regarding compensation amount for affected families of the present crisis in the State.
In a press release issued on Thursday, Publicity Secretary, MCM, Soibam Meethun Meetei suggested that there is a need on the part of the State government to conduct a thorough investigation on the matter. A team of the Meitei society met the Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh, at his office today.
During the meeting, the MCM team expressed their unhappiness over the cabinet decision to compensate an amount of Rs.10 lakh, 7 lakh and 5 lakh for pucca building, semi-pucca building and kaccha houses which are affected or burnt down during the ongoing crisis.
MCM members also told the Chief Minister that the compensation amount announced as per the cabinet decision did not suit the present value and expressed their willingness to resettle in Moreh town.
The Chief Minister gave the visiting team leaders an assurance that steps would be taken up for resettlement in Moreh, and also assured them that an amount of Rs. 2 lakh each to the victims' families to compensate the loss of properties and goods, and loans to the families without interest.
The release further stated that the state government should finds means to restore and develop the life and future of the victims
