Mizoram: Polling for 40 Seats concludes peacefully with voting percentage of 77.83%

In Mizoram, polling for 40 Assembly seats concluded peacefully without any untoward incident. The preliminary report of the voting percentage stands at 77.83%.

Some of the prominent faces whose fate has been sealed in EVM today are Chief Minister and MNF President Zoramthanga, Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia, Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena, Chief Ministerial candidate of the Zoram People’s Movement Lalduhawma, President of Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee Lalsawta, President of BJP Mizoram Vanlalhmuaka, state President of Aam Aadmi Party Andrew Lalremkima.

Mizoram has more than 8.57 lakh voters. Voting took place in 1276 polling stations across the state.

Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati was among the first to cast a vote in the election.

Speaking exclusively to Akashvani News, Chief Electoral Officer Madhup Vyas said that the polling was completed peacefully. He thanked the voters who had come out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.

In this election, the ruling Mizo National Front, Indian National Congress, and Zoram People’s Movement are fielding candidates in all 40 seats while the BJP is contesting in 23 Assembly constituencies. The Aam Aadmi Party is contesting for the first time seeking election in 4 Assembly segments while there are 27 independent candidates in the electoral battle.

A total of 174 candidates including 16 women are trying their electoral luck in this election.

A large number of voters were lining up since early morning to cast their votes. The young, the elderly, women, and all sections of society participated in the election. Voting was held in 1276 polling stations across the state. The fate of 174 candidates is now sealed in EVM.
