Crippled in a mob attack, Manipur MLA Vungzagin Valte arrived at Mizoram's lone airport from New Delhi on Wednesday, marking his first return to the Northeast states after battling for his life in the Delhi hospital.
Valte, in a wheelchair, was among the first victims of the violence that erupted in Manipur.
The MLA from Thanlon constituency in the Pherzawl district of Manipur was attacked by an angry mob while returning from the chief minister's secretariat on Thursday, 4 May, afternoon 2023.
The 62-year-old had been advisor to chief minister Biren Singh before the violence began.
Upon arriving at Lengpui airport, Valte was officially received by MLA Er. Ginzalal, Adviser to the Chief Minister (Technical), on behalf of the Mizoram government and Mizo Students’ Union (MSU) Vice-president Roluahpuia.
Er. Ginzalal, Adviser to the Chief Minister (Technical), lauded MSU for organizing a warm reception program at the airport.
During a brief interaction with media persons in Lengpui airport, Valte shared that he received very limited financial assistance from the state of Manipur during his prolonged treatment in Delhi, despite the severity of his condition.
He further condemned former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, stating that “he has been against the Zo community right from the beginning.”
Now, as part of his journey to Manipur's Churachandpur district, a chopper has been arranged to safely transport him back to his home in Lamka.
