Kuki-Zo womenfolk of Moreh gathered to protest against the alleged Meitei armed militias and police attempting to occupy the Additional Deputy Commissioner office complex at Chikim Veng, Moreh, led by Tengnoupal SP Rahul Gupta, around 9 AM today.
Subsequently, Assam Rifles, BSF, and RAF personnel arrived at the scene and engaged in discussions with the protesters and Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal (KIT) members. They informed the security forces about the ground reality and the firm demand of the public to remove state-sponsored commandos, including the Arambai Tenggol and Meitei Leepun militias, who are perceived as threats to peace and normalcy in Tengnoupal District.
KIT representatives urged the security officers to comprehend the sentiments of the people and abandon the plan to station radical Meitei militias disguised in state police uniforms. While the public in Moreh welcomes the presence of neutral security forces, they are opposed to allowing the Meitei people and their armed militias to occupy or station in the district before a Kuki-Zo political solution is established.
Reportedly, the Manipur Police Commando open fire at the gathering of women protesters, resulting in an injury to a woman identified as Nemneilhing Simte. Currently, she is receiving treatment from the BSF stationed at Moreh College.
KIT strongly condemned Manipur CM N Biren Singh's tendency to create problems in Moreh, seemingly as a diversion from situations in the Imphal valley. KIT emphasized that the removal of Meitei forces from Tengnoupal District, especially Moreh town, is crucial for the restoration of peace and normalcy.
