Manipur University Students Union has warned of adjacent consequences possibly far more severe than expectations if the Mizoram University authority successfully happens to terminate the Ph.D programme of Teresa Ningthoujam from Mizoram University.
MUSU issued a press release in response to the Mizo Zirlai Pawl's demand for the termination of Ph.D programme of Teresa Ningthoujam from Mizoram University.
MUSU stated that, “Following the demand of MZP if the Mizoram University Authority successively happens to terminate the Ph.D. programme of Teresa Ningthoujam from Mizoram University, Manipur University Students' Union vitally rings the harness bell for the adjacent consequences which could possibly far more severe than expectations”.
MUSU draws the attention of all stakeholders especially those who are in academic pursuits including Mizo Zirlai Pawl and the authority of Mizoram University to refrain from irrational acts targeting academic institutions.
Such an act is intolerable as places like academic institutions should not be touched, stated the release.
MUSU claimed that there are numerous reports and evidences of students from Kuki community enrolled under different programmes in Manipur University being involved directly in spreading false rumours of Meitei people raping Kuki women inside the University campus, students belonging to the said community being indulged in gunfights, possessing sophisticated weapons and collecting funds from the students of the university to assist in the armed militancy up-to publishing writings based on false propaganda and made-up history.
However, Manipur University Students' Union has not been taking up any harsh steps attempting the academic and personal career of those individuals who are worth more than plundering their careers days back.
The very still and calmness which has been maintained by MUSU till date is purposely imperative to uphold the values of peace, respect for human life and academic excellence of Manipur University stands for, stated release.
Meanwhile different associations under Mizoram University have issued a joint statement in condemnation of research scholars from the university being involved in collecting and handing over funds to the Arambai Tenggol.
In a joint statement issued on January 30, Mizoram University Students' Council, Mizoram University Research Scholars' Association, Mizoram University Alumni Association, Mizoram University Teachers' Associations, Mizoram University Non- Teaching Employees Association stated that they condemned an unethical act by a student of a higher educational institution that may instigate unwanted communal tension inside the university campus and call that such unwanted incidence do not reoccur.
The joint body stated that they have taken steps to maintain peace and harmony among the different communities and ethnic groups in Mizoram University since the beginning of violence inside Manipur University campus on May 3, 2023 by issuing a joint press statement on May 4, 2023 and organizing a peace gathering on July 27, 2023 inside Mizoram University campus. “However, despite our best efforts, we are deeply aggrieved to learn that Ms. Teresa Ningthoujam, Ph.D Scholar, Department of HAMP, Mizoram University was seen involved in giving donations to the Arambai Tenggol on social media, thereby threatening the peaceful co-existence of different tribal ethnic groups inside Mizoram University campus,” the joint body stated.
The joint body stated that they will strive to continue to ensure peace in Mizoram University campus and also appeal that it also prevails in all educational institutions across the nation.
