The National Sports University, Imphal, celebrated the National Sports Day 2023 today in commemoration with the birth anniversary of hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand with the theme “Sports as an enabler for an inclusive and fit society” in Imphal
The students, faculty members, staff and their families and friends participated in the celebrations.
A press release issued by the University stated that Arjuna Awardee (Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sports) Manipur Ng Sonia Chanu, graced the occasion as a special guest and was facilitated by the Vice Chancellor (O) Professor Usha S Nair.
As a part of National Sports Day-2023, a week-long programme with various competitions and activities were conducted from 25 August and the overall competition was named as the Major Dhyan Chand Trophy-2023 and concluded on Tuesday (Aug 29) with a tribute to legendary Major Dhyan Chand.
The University authority stated that the vice chancellor, while speaking to the gathering, emphasised that the National Sports Day is not only a celebration but also to a tribute the nations’ sports heroes and champions, honoring their contribution and dedication towards bringing laurels to the country.
Dr. Laishram Dibamani Singh, Registrar NSU, in his speech appreciated the organisers of the event and also encouraged the students to work hard as hard as the legends with the aim to raise awareness of sports, dedication towards the goals and to make the sports as an integral part of human lives to emphasize the importance of being fit and healthy.
Exhibition match between faculty and students were also conducted followed by the skill demonstration with the theme “Sports as an enabler for an inclusive and fit society” by the students of NSU.
