One of Manipur's oldest Hospital in Kangpokpi returns to its finest days during violence

Kangpokpi Christian Hospital, or KCH, undoubtedly Manipur's oldest hospital and one of the earliest hospitals in the entire North East states comes back to its finest days amidst the wide-scale violence in the state.

The more than 100-year-old hospital, established way back in the year 1920 by Dr. G.G. Crozier and his better half, was the finest hospital till the 1990s with patients across the state and the North East region thronged it for various treatments.

However, with the establishment of various good hospitals in the state, KCH has reached almost a defunct state with a lack of top-notch infrastructures and equipment.

The wide-scale violence since May 3 in Manipur turned into a blessing in disguise for the hospital as it witnessed similar days during its finest time with more than 200 outpatients visiting daily and more than 50/60 in-patients.

Considering the medical problems owing to the unavailability of proper medical facilities and the low intake capacity of in-patients owing to the non-availability of sufficient rooms and beds, the Kuki Students' Organization-General Headquarters took the initiative in constructing the first floor of the hospital to accommodate more in-patients in the hospital.

Mimin Haokip, Information, and Publicity of KSO-GHQ said that the construction work of the first-floor building began on June 14 and was completed on September 20 while the inauguration, dedication, and handing over to the hospital authority was done today.

He said that construction work had been done in collaboration with the International Love Ministry under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Holkhosei Touthang and Chingboi Touthang.

Rev. V. Sitlhou, Chairman, Administration Committee, Kangpokpi Christian Hospital inaugurated and dedicated the first-floor building in the presence of various prominent leaders from various community and civil society organizations.

He also inaugurated and dedicated the newly constructed and introduced KCH Canteen for the in-patient parties constructed by the KSO-GHQ in collaboration with the International Love Ministry.

The KSO-GHQ believed that the hospital would serve the needs of the people in a better way and called for sincere collective efforts for the upgradation of the hospital and its infrastructure and equipment to serve humanity.

Paominthang Hmar, the Chief Administrative Officer, KCH expressed profound gratitude, especially to the KSO-GHQ and all contributors for their tireless efforts for the hospital while adding that the founder of the hospital Dr. and Mrs. Crozier's dream has been revived and they would be very happy.

He also encouraged all like-minded people to come forward for the betterment of the hospital as it is a non-profit, charitable, and self-supported hospital established to serve humanity.
