In a commendable effort to bolster resources, the Maha Regiment under the auspices of the Red Shield Division, embarked on a transformative journey to enhance the Peniel Care Centre for Drugs and Alcohol De-addiction and Rehabilitation at Keithelmanbi Military Colony, nestled within the confines of Champhai Sub Division in Kangpokpi District.
The ambitious undertaking saw the Rehabilitation Centre undergo a remarkable metamorphosis, primarily characterized by the expansion of its facilities through the addition of a new room extension.
The augmentation, realized at a cost of approximately Rs. 15 lakhs under the aegis of Operation Sadbhavana 2023-24, stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Regiment towards fostering holistic wellness and combatting the scourge of substance abuse within the community.
The fruition of this endeavour was marked by a poignant ribbon-cutting ceremony, graced by the esteemed presence of Col. RK Vikram from the Indian Army, who symbolically unveiled the newly fortified centre.
The expansion not only amplifies the capacity of the facility to accommodate more individuals seeking respite and rehabilitation from substance abuse disorders but also underscores the Regiment's steadfast dedication to effecting tangible change at the grassroots level.
The genesis of the Peniel Care Centre dates back to November 20, 2022, when it was inaugurated with great fervour and optimism by Minister Nemcha Kipgen at Keithelmanbi Military Colony Ward No.1, adjacent to the SDO Champhai office in Kangpokpi District.
Founded by the indomitable spirit and unwavering resolve of military pensioners Pachon and Hoinu Kipgen, the centre stands as a beacon of hope amidst the shadows of addiction, a testament to their selfless dedication to the welfare of the community.
Pachon Kipgen, reflecting on the genesis of the centre, elucidated, "Profoundly unsettled by the pervasive drug menace upon my return to our hometown following military retirement, my wife and I felt an urgent calling to address this pressing issue and make a lasting impact on our community."
Fuelled by an innate desire for positive change, we channelled our hard-earned savings accrued over 32 years of service towards the establishment of the centre, embodying the ethos of service and sacrifice, he added.
The expansion of the Peniel Care Centre signifies a paradigm shift in the narrative surrounding addiction treatment, transcending mere rehabilitation to embrace a holistic approach towards healing and recovery.
Equipped with meticulously crafted rooms replete with modern amenities and furnishings, the centre provides a nurturing environment conducive to the arduous journey towards sobriety, instilling a sense of hope and resilience in its inhabitants.
