After a hiatus of more than 10 days, distribution of relief materials for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) resumed in Churachandpur district. The district administration, as follow-up of their yesterday press release, continued distribution of relief materials today through philanthropic organizations.
About 500 bags of rice were distributed to IDPs who are taking shelter at relief centres in the District. There are about 17,911 IDPs living in 115 relief camps cross the District.
Today's distribution of rice, as a stop gap arrangement on liability, is the first such since the 15th Feb, 2024 incident. Routine distribution of relief materials was affected after arsonists burned down office of the Deputy Commissioner at Mini-Secretariat complex and official bungalow at Headquarters Veng on 15th Feb, 2024 where important documents were destroyed or gutted down. Efforts are on to resume normal routine relief operations in the District.
The District Administration has spared no efforts in facilitating the supply of essential commodities and other welfare measures for the internally displaced public. So far, the District Administration has distributed about 37,032 bags of rice, 4,247 bags of potatoes, 8,417 bags of dal, 2,906 bags of onions, 71,7570 litres of cooking oil and other daily necessities through Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). Medicines and Medical services were provided through Chief Medical Officer and drinking water is provided through PHED. Besides, other welfare measures such as imparting skills/human resources mobilisation, recreational activities and more importantly the much needed moral and humanitarian care and supports are extended to them.
The District Administration also made an appeal to all concerned to extend maximum cooperation to the District Administration's constant efforts towards the relief operations and other welfare measures for the IDPs.
