The Sadar Hills District Congress Committee organized a reception-cum-felicitation program at LNC Hotel, Kangpokpi, to honor Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, the newly appointed Manipur State Congress In-Charge, on his maiden visit to the state. The event marked a significant moment for the party’s organizational resurgence in Manipur, particularly in the Sadar Hills region.

Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, who hails from Odisha, is a sitting Member of Parliament (MP) and the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj. Notably, he is the sole representative of the Odisha Congress in the Lok Sabha, making his leadership in Manipur’s political affairs a crucial step for the party’s expansion and consolidation in the region.

The event, coordinated by Jangminthang Kipgen, began with a welcome address by District Congress President Zilkhothang Touthang, setting the tone for an inspiring interaction. In a display of rich cultural tradition and deep respect, the Saipikhup shawl, a symbol of honor, was presented to Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, while Christopher Tilak and Outer Manipur MP Alfred Kanngam S. Arthur were felicitated with Saipikhup mufflers.

Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, Kuki Women Union Sadar Hills, Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights - General Headqaurters and Sadar Hills Chapters and various other civil society organisations also attended the reception and felicitation event.

Addressing the gathering, Ulaka commended the unwavering dedication of Congress party workers in Manipur, particularly their tireless efforts that led to the party’s success in both the Outer and Inner Manipur parliamentary seats. His words reinforced the party’s commitment to grassroots empowerment and strengthening its presence across the state.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Lamtinthang Haokip expressed gratitude to the newly appointed In-Charge for making time for the visit despite his demanding schedule. He emphasized the urgent need to reinforce the party’s organizational activities in the district, particularly under the guidance of Ulaka.

The reception program not only underscored Congress’s growing influence in Manipur but also served as a powerful reminder of the party’s dedication to uplifting rural and marginalized communities. Ulaka’s visit has injected a renewed sense of purpose and direction into the party’s local leadership, setting the stage for stronger political engagement in the days ahead.
