Saikul MLA Kimneo inaugurates 'May Road' connecting Keithelmanbi-Saikul road

The youngest Manipur legislator Kimneo Haokip Hangshing, MLA Saikul Assembly Constituency inaugurated a road Christened "May Road" to remember the reconciliation of the Kuki-Zo community after the Manipur mayhem in May.

The second road after Saparmeina - Saikul road, connecting the Saikul Sub Division with the rest of the world via National Highway 2, the newly inaugurated 15 Km. (approx.) May Road will serve as another important lifeline for the Saikul people with a shorter distance.

Though the road was yet to be blacktop, the Finance Department formed under Kuki Inpi Saikul took the initiative to make the road motorable during the ongoing conflict in the state to provide better connectivity among the Kuki-Zo populace in Kangpokpi district.

The local MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing inaugurated the 'May Road' in the presence of Kuki Inpi Saikul, Kuki Women Union Saikul, Kuki Students' Organization Saikul, and the area's chiefs.

While appreciating the initiative and efforts of the Kuki Inpi Saikul's Finance Department, and other civil society organizations of Saikul, the MLA conveyed her disappointment that many road development projects under various departments could not be materialized owing to the violence.

The MLA also encouraged the civil bodies of Saikul to continue working collectively for the welfare of the public and humanitarian services.

The local MLA flagged off the vehicles after Rev. Seiminlen Haokip, Pastor KBC Centre Saikul dedicated the "May Road" for public use.

The Kuki Inpi Saikul's Finance Department Secretary, Seikhohao Karong said that we are so fortunate that the much-desired reconciliation of the Kuki-Zo community could finally come up after May's violence in Manipur.

"The long division among the Kuki-Zo people had been stamped out by the violence and united all brothers and sisters of the Kuki-Zo people and to mark the reconciliation of the Kuki-Zo people, the road is christened May Road", he added.

The various CSO leaders and village chiefs also expressed their happiness over the opening of the May Road for public use and conveyed gratitude to all who have brought the long-awaited dream of the people into reality.
