Sanjaoba: Meiteis strive for unity, love, overall development; will not accept any move against unity

The lone member of Rajya Sabha and titular King of Manipur, Leishemba Sanajaoba, on Saturday said that the Meiteis believe and strive for unity, love and overall development among all communities; and they will not accept any kind of tendencies towards separation.

The titular king of Manipur made the statement while briefing to the media at sideline of Mera Houchongba celebration at Kangla in Imphal.

Sanajaoba said that all the communities living in Manipur are indigenous people and the State belongs to all. He then appealed to the people to leave aside a narrow mindset, but to work and live collectively as a whole.

Sanajaoba further reiterated that every person in Manipur should have a dream of unity between the people from hills and valley, to be united as one Manipur.

The Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, while speaking as the chief guest at the Mera Houchongba celebration, emphasized on the bonding between the people of the hills and the valley in the state. He said that schemes like "Go to Hills" and "Go to Villages" were launched to strengthen ties between the hills and valley and to understand and act upon the requirements of the people from the interior parts of the State.

The Mera Houchongba celebration was also marked by performance of cultural and traditional dances from different troupes of communities. To signify the bond between different communities, they also exchanged gifts among themselves.

The celebration began with rituals held at Sana Konung Imphal in the morning. Later, the participants including Leishemba Sanajaoba marched towards Kangla, the sacred place of Manipur.
