The Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) has warned of launching an indefinite economic blockade along NH-2 from 6 pm of October 5 if the state government fails to lift the suspension of internet service within 24 hours from Oct 4.
SDSA stated that they are truly disappointed and dismayed at the extension of the internet ban, despite the press communiqué it issued on September 29, expressing their displeasure and grievance on the ban of mobile internet service in Senapati where there is currently no law and order issue.
In an ultimatum served to the state government on October 4, SDSA stated that despite the grievances expressed by the association and requesting the government to lift the internet ban in Senapati, the suspension of mobile internet services was further extended by another 5 days as of 1st Oct, 2023.
SDSA believes that access to the internet is not just a privilege but a fundamental right that every citizen should enjoy without interruption. The continuous imposition of ban on mobile internet services across the entire state, even when issues are confined to specific areas, is not only unjustifiable but also infringes upon our basic rights as citizens of a free state, the Association added.
SDSA hopes that the government promptly takes action to reinstate mobile internet services in Senapati District, ensuring that the rights and aspirations of the people are respected and upheld and that suspension of mobile internet services is not imposed indiscriminately all over the state for any isolated cases of law and order situations.
SDSA further stated that the internet band affects the livelihoods, education, and communication of the residents of Senapati District.
